On February 27, after carrying out preliminary functional tests, the cultivation trials begin. During 1 year, production tests will be carried out with different varieties of lettuce, aromatic herbs and micro-sprouts in the 312m2 of cultivation area installed in the Farmitank prototype.
These cultivation trials will be led by FLORETTE and, in parallel, an analytical campaign will be carried out with the participation of CNTA and HERMANOS TORRES CORNAGO to analyze comparisons of quality, production, useful life, conservation and carbon footprint between the crops produced in Farmitank and crops produced in greenhouses. The ultimate goal of the project is to demonstrate the advantages of vertical farming systems over conventional farming practices.
